Prime lenses for my Canon: faster is better

Out of all the things I want, what I really really want right now would be new lenses for my DSLR. Why? Because few weeks ago, the autofocus on my 18-55 IS kit lens died.
Apart from the 2 lenses that I have previously lusted, I am currently also considering to buy better optics for my DSLR. And when it comes to better optics, prime lenses are the best options! ;) Here are a few that would make me lose a whole lot of cash but gain a whole lot of happy points…
Canon EF 14mm f/2.8L II USM

14mm: wide-angle
I love playing with wide angle, especially during my Euro-trip, where cathedrals and great buildings are captured in their awesomeness. Also for group shots with little space to move around! Approximate price tag: US$2100.
Canon EF 35mm f/1.4L USM

35mm: standard prime
This will be the lens I need for normal every day portrait. Without having to move away too much from the person, I can take great photos fast & effective. Approximate price tag: US$1400.
Canon EF 85mm f1.2L II USM

85mm: fast portrait
Of course, the f/1.8 version is much cheaper and as reliable, but hey, I want things fast! ;) Afterall, I’ve tasted 50mm f/1.8 and I wouldn’t mind having a faster lens! Approximate price tag: US$1800.
Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L IS USM Macro

100mm: telephoto
For more than just close ups. This will be fun. Not necessarily necessary, but hey, this is lusting time! ;) Approximate price tag: US$1000.

My faithful 450D... Do I want more?
My decision to buy lenses will depend not only cash, but also on the very fact of purpose… Am I really going to pursue photography? Another decision making headache: the lenses I choose will also depend on whether I am getting a full-frame DSLR, such as the 5D MkII or the soon-to-be-available 1D MkIV.
Lucky for me, lack of money means lack of choices. Means, as for now, I’d just have to sit back and drool over the lenses on my computer screen!
Minimo, the cheaper way to shoot lomography!

I love all sorts of photography, including one that many are addicted to whilst many snobs consider to be junk or non-art: lomography. Lomography, to me, is two things. It is the camera. A cheap camera with light leaks, unbalanced contrast, dark vignetting corners, and other “imperfections”. It is also the art of taking photographs.
10 Golden Rules of Lomography:
1.Take your camera everywhere you go
2. Use it any time – day and night
3. Lomography is not an interference in your life, but part of it
4. Try the shot from the hip
5. Approach the objects of your Lomographic desire as close as possible
6. Don’t think
7. Be fast
8. You don’t have to know beforehand what you captured on film
9. Afterwards either
10. Don’t worry about any rules
I have always wanted a lomo camera, and I do own one. However, the price of films and processing is just too much for me to freely go around taking photographs (especially considering the art of lomography requires me to not think and just shoot). So, I’ve always been searching for a digital lomo. One that allows you take photographs without film. The cheapo way of doing lomo, basically! ;) And of course, seek and you shall find…

Minimo: Digital Lomography Camera

Minimo brings lomography to the new digital age!

Minimo's small & compact, so you can bring it anywhere with you!

Add Wonderlens with Minimo for more lomo effects! :)
Minimo. A digital lomo. Well not the best reviews I’ve heard about this product, but it’s not stopping me to want it so bad. It’s small and it’s cute, which is perfect for lomography as I’ll be able to carry it around with me anywhere and take snapshots of anything. No film involved, means I’d just need an SD card & rechargeable batteries to keep it going – cheap! The results? Well, here are some of the photos they posted…

High contrast & dark corners are just 2 ways to spot a lomo image!

"Just shoot, don't think" is the motto of lomo artists!

There are no rules to lomography, so just have fun!!!

The beauty of lomography is in the imperfections!
There are more photos around the web, and I believe you can grab one of these beauties from places like Singapore and Malaysia. Oh what a coincidence, I’m at the latter! *winks*

I know that I do post plenty of gadgets and knick knacks for the girls. Well, don’t blame me, I am one. But I do love all things, not just the girly ones. And this one might interest the boys who grew up playing and building Lego. I guess when you grow up, playing with Lego pieces just isn’t something you would be expected to do anymore. However, there’s a little kid inside every one of us, I believe. And so, for those Lego lovers who seek something more than just a kiddy game, here are some Lego gadgets that you might find interesting:

Lego camera & MP3 players coming out soon!
You can soon buy the camera, music player, and boombox, as they are expected to arrive very shortly. But looking at the specifications of these Lego gadgets, they are just novelty items that would satisfy the real Lego enthusiasts or those with young children. Nonetheless, I think it’s pretty cool! Just look at these…

Lego MP3 player - in pink!!!

Lego boombox! Carry 'em around

Lego camera for Lego lovers!
Would you get them? Or more interestingly, I really wonder if people – or grown-ups, more specifically – still play Lego nowadays. Do you?
